MeetInBetween.Us After 1 Week
It’s been 1 week now since we launched MeetInBetween.Us for the RailsRumble competition, I thought it would be fun to share some of the data we’ve gathered so far. So far we’ve received 479 votes giving us an average score of 2.666/5; I must say, I was shocked to see such a low score but strangely that’s good enough to give us second place at the moment. First place currently has an average score of 2.751/5 and third is currently sitting at 2.604/5. I’ll write a post about the low scores after the competition is up as I think the voting system needs to be discussed.
The site itself has received a grand total of 2,721 Visits from 2,358 Unique Visitors that have generated 6,825 Pagesviews (2.51 Average Pageviews/Visit). This is in line with my expectations considering there should be 3 Pageviews per visit for a user that generates a Meeting Place Map. This should be going up dramatically with our next release, but it’s a good start.
In terms of browsers, Firefox takes the biggest piece of the pie, coming in at 60% with Safari in second with 20% and IE in third with 13%. Good thing considering IE was the browser we were having the biggest issues with and actually weren’t able to resolve a JavaScript issue with IE6.
My favorite Google Analytics report to watch has been the Map Overlay - we never really tested Midpoints in any country other than the United States, so seeing foreign adoption has been great. The US comes in at the top with 1,774 Visits, the UK in second with 143 and Canada in third with 123. An interesting subset of that data is looking at which States use the app the most often which shows we have active users in 51 of the 52 States; this goes along with my previous belief that South Dakota doesn’t have the Internet. The majority of our hits are coming from California (290), Ohio (264), New York (125) and Illinois (111).
Of course, the most important statistics are recorded in our own database - how many address points, maps and meeting points are we creating? Here’s how it breaks down:
| Date | Addresses | Midpoints | Meeting Places |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10/19/2008 | 186 | 61 | 10 |
| 10/20/2008 | 1312 | 385 | 106 |
| 10/21/2008 | 177 | 53 | 11 |
| 10/22/2008 | 123 | 35 | 10 |
| 10/23/2008 | 955 | 283 | 84 |
| 10/24/2008 | 1441 | 417 | 129 |
| 10/25/2008 | 691 | 206 | 55 |
| 10/26/2008 | 301 | 89 | 26 |
With the data we’ve been able to collect thus far, the awesome feedback we’ve received from our users, the great coverage on blogs and an exciting press piece that will be announced shortly, we’ve started putting together what needs to be done next. I’m looking forward to our next release and hope to be able to share more details with you all soon.
The voting system needs to be addressed indeed. I understand the reasoning for changing it from last year, but this is not a good solution at all.
There’s still a lot of voting to come.
Awesome post Andrew, I love seeing those numbers! Looking forward to that “exciting press piece” we’re announcing! Thanks for compiling that!
Hi, I’m Jhenifer, and I write a blog for TransLink (http://buzzer.translink.ca/) where I’ve linked to MeetInBetweeen.us. Just thought I’d let you know!
Hi Jhenifer - thanks for the article on your blog. I noticed it today on my Google Alerts - we’ll keep you posted about our future releases so you can see our progress. Thanks for the great writeup :).

meetinbetween.us suggested that we meet at a meat packing plant
interesting choice
Hi Jeff,
Hope you’re not a vegetarian :). Seriously though, if you’d like to send us the Map ID (or the URL from Share This Map) we can take a look at your use case and make sure we see how we can improve it during our next releases.
Thanks,
-AK
